The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department and Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation present Christmas on the Congaree this holiday season.
Columbia’s Riverfront Lights Up for the Holidays!
December 6 – 31
Coble Plaza @ Riverfront Park
Open to the Public
Presented by the Columbia Parks and Recreation Foundation
The event will be held during the entire month of December at the Coble Plaza, 211 Gervais Street. Coble Plaza is located on the Columbia Canal and Congaree River between Edventure and the South Carolina State Museum. Christmas on the Congaree event will be an outdoor event, free of charge to attendees. After the holiday event, the Christmas trees will be planted in various parks throughout the Columbia area. The event promises to be a festive community event as Columbians come together to celebrate the holidays.
This event is being held to benefit The City of Columbia Summer Camp Program. Sponsorships go towards providing funding for 50 inner-city youth to participate in the summer camp program in 2014 offered by The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department. The summer camp program affords youths eight (8) weeks of skill building opportunities to include reading, math, and science enrichment, as well as, cultural arts and outdoor experiences (i.e., kayaking, fishing at Riverfront Park and horseback riding).
